The Blind Side.

The recent film The Blindside directed by John Lee Hancock is one of my all-time favorite movies. I initially thought that this movie was going to be just another football movie, something boring that wouldn’t grab my attention.  As I continued to watch the film I realized that this is completely different. This is about Michael Oher, a homeless teenager being welcomed into the Touhy’s home, and him playing a sport that he knows nothing about, but soon turns out to be very good at it.

I would say that this movie has many purposes. One purpose would be to inform the audience. This movie was based on an extraordinary true story therefore they are informing the audience about Michael Oher and some of the event in his life. The film was rated PG-13 so I would say that the audience is directed towards teens through elders to show them not to give up hope. Mike was a homeless teen living on the streets with barely a dream of his own. There were multiple tones throughout the movie but one that really stood out was appreciation. Mike was brought into the Touhy’s home as a stranger, never argued with them, and was thankful that someone had just given him a home.

Questions:
1.
1.How does this movie differ from the other football movies?
2.       2.How does the tone change from the beginning of the movie to the end?
3.       3.Why is the movie called The Blind Side?

How has the tone changed from the beginning of the movie to the end?

In the beginning of the movie the tone seemed sad, no one really had any faith in Mike, and he was just a bum living on various peoples couches. The school also didn't have much faith in Mike, they took one look at his transcripts and already gave him a label. Throughout the movie we see the tone slowly beginning to change all because he was welcomed into the Tuohy's home. The tone in the movie changes from sad to happy when Michael Oher is welcomed into the Tuohy's family.

  1. Jaime,
You have a good start to your analysis so far. Your thesis is clear, but I think you could improve the tone of the statement by changing the words "happy" and "sad" (these words do not seem formal enough-- think alternatives). Your supporting evidence and textual support are not detailed enough. Your textual support seems to focus on the relationships in Michael's life instead of the tone of the movie. Maybe change your thesis to reflect the evidence you are presenting. Make sure in your final draft that you use specific quotes, dialogue, setting, music, and other film elements to support your thesis (right now you don't have anything specific enough).

Your blog overall looks good. If you have missed a few posts, I suggest doing some extra credit.
